Adopting with the MGF

Finding adopting a new pet has never been so easy!

Listed below are just some of the reasons why adopting through the MGF is the most trusted and uncomplicated adoption process you can find!

  • All our adoption partners are thoroughly vetted and all agree to sign a ‘Process of Adoptions Agreement’ to maintain the high standard of care we expect.
  • For transparency, we list all our Adoption Partners on our website and we never list animals for adoption from rescue shelters we are not already partnered with and can fully trust.
  • Our main role is to reduce the stress and complications of the adoption process for both you and our partners. We will handle all communication with the rescue shelters and arrange the logistics to have the animal arrive safe and sound when expected.
  • Our awesome adoption team always works to ensure the match between adopter and animal is as good as it can be and will help you find the perfect pet in no time based on your requirements.
  • All necessary checks and medical procedures prior to adoption are mandatory and aligned with EU regulations.
  • Our priority at all times will be the safety and well-being of the animals no matter the circumstances. And The MGF will take the necessary actions to prevent any harm to them, physical or mental.
  • When adopting with The MGF, you can know that with every animal you see, we have already taken the responsibility to ensure that where they come from is a trusted shelter, and how they are described on our site is as reliable and accurate as possible.

What is the cost of adopting?

Our adoption costs are adjusted based on the animal and location. No adoption fee is the same and this is because the costs for medical tests, transport, certificates etc. take into consideration the needs, size, location and sometimes even the breed of animal.

Your donation will always cover the expenses incurred by the partnered rescue shelter where the animal comes from and also provides some much needed additional support.

During the adoption process, if you have any questions regarding our fees or processes, our team will be more than happy to help and make things as clear as possible.

Our Steps for Adoption

Every adoption through MGF goes through a safeguarding 3-step process, which can vary with each adoption depending on the location and abilities of both the adopter and animal.

These are protective measures for the animals to ensure compatibility and well-being in their new environment. Rehoming is a great thing however it can dramatically affect an animal’s mental and physical health if not done with care.

The requirements for adoption include the following steps;

Step 1: Adoption application and environment check

  • Once your adoption application has been received by our team, we will then get in touch to discuss the process moving forward and to better understand the family environment the animal could move to.
  • This can involve an in-person home check-up where possible by a representative of the MGF. We do this to confirm that the home will be suitable for the animal’s character and needs, as well ensuring the best match for you and what you are looking for in a companion.

Step 2: Adoption approval, transport and documentation change.

  • Once the adoption has been approved and any home-checks are completed, arrangements for standard pre-adoption medical checks, any required transportation and cross-border documentation will be arranged by the MGF.
  • Following the safe arrival of the animal at their new home, for the next 15 days the MGF will maintain communication with you for continued support and well-being checks, ensuring a safe and successful transition of the animal from our family to yours. This can involve an in-person home check-up where possible by a representative of the MGF.  We do this to monitor the animal’s mental well-being as moving to a new environment can be stressful for many rescue animals.
  • During this step, assuming a successful adoption outcome, the MGF will be responsible for the change of ownership for the animal and will notify the adopters once this is complete.

Step 3: Final check-up and happy tails!

  • Adoption complete! The animal is happy in their new home and you’re delighted with your new family member. At or near the 1-month, 3-month and 6-month mark after the adoption, the MGF will give a courtesy call to confirm you are still happy with your new companion and to provide any support needed.
  • Our support will never stop no matter how much time passes after the adoption is complete, however, after 6 months, the MGF will make a courtesy call to confirm that you and your new companion are still happy together and to provide any support needed.
