  • Ozzie
    Ozzie is unusual for a shelter dog in that we have a pedigree certificate and was surrendered to the shelter by a hunter who did not want him.
  • Al
    Al arrived in September 2021. He came with a female dog who he had got pregnant! She had 3 beautiful pups. Mother and pups are all adopted.
  • Alice
    Alice was abandoned near an old quarry and was rescued by a volunteer.
  • Snitter
    Snitter was sadly surrendered to the shelter by his previous owner as she developed a severe allergy to dogs.
  • Esperança
    Esperança was given up by their previous owners due to no longer being able to look after her any longer.

    An MGF Network Partner based in Central Portugal.
  • CRAPAA - Animal Protection Association
    An MGF Network Partner based in Central Portugal.
  • MGF - Emergency Care Fund
    Direct contribution to The MGF Network's Emergency Care Fund. Used for high priority and urgent care relief.
  • Dini
    Dini was a stray being fed by the villagers when a local man noticed she was ill and asked if the rescue shelter could help arrange a vet.
  • Cravo
    Cravo was sadly found on the local streets along with his 3 sisters when he was only 2 months old.
  • Celinha
    Celinha was taken in by a neighbour after her carer died, however, the neighbour was not taking very good care of her, the shelter was alerted to the situation and the neighbour agreed to hand the dogs over.
  • Sakura
    Sakura was surrendered to the shelter when her owners had to leave their accommodation and could not find another property to rent that would accept pets in August 2022.
  • Tigressa
    Tigressa was found in the woods as a puppy and has been living in shelters since. She has been with the current shelter since April 2021.
  • Benny
    Benny was wandering the streets of the local town for some weeks before someone managed to get hold of him and take him to the local shelter. He has been at the shelter since February 2022.
  • Oliver
    Oliver was rescued from an abusive situation, this was reported by a neighbour and the local police removed him from that house, he was brought to the local rescue shelter, along with some other dogs from the same property.
  • Katie
    Katie was surrendered by her owner when they realized they could no longer financially look after her, however, she was not well looked after before arriving at the rescue shelter and this has made her nervous about people.
  • Bonny
    Bonny was a stray on the street and she was rescued by the shelter and taken into care during June 2023.
  • Frances
    Frances was found abandoned on the street in March 2023 and rescued by the shelter. We want to get him out of this shelter so he can get the lifestyle he needs and deserves!
  • Louis
    Louis was found abandoned on the street with two other dogs in January 2023.
  • Julietta
    Julietta was seen abandoned in a car and was rescued quickly in May 2022.
  • Barry
    Barry arrived at the shelter only 3 months old after being rescued in early 2022
  • BP
    BP has been at the shelter since 2018 and deserves his chance for a home life
  • Jack
    Jack came from a litter of 10 that volunteers hand-raised at the shelter. From the 10, only Jack and Ludwig are left to find their forever home!
  • Icarus
    Icarus is a very sweet, small, older male dog that is very friendly towards people. He adores a cuddle and some attention, lots of loves and would love to be able to snuggle up on the sofa next to his person.
  • Amora
    Amora is a stunning girl who is sociable and loves to run and play, especially with her shelter mates!
  • Mini
    Mini is a very friendly, small, medium female who is quite confident and likes attention of people and other dogs!

Help Build The MGF Sanctuary!

We are the Maureen Gray Foundation and we are working to improve the lives of animals in a world desperately in need of a helping hand to change the treatment and attitude towards them and their well-being.

We are a young team of Portuguese & English animal lovers and go-getters. We have spent many years volunteering for multiple charity organisations both in Portugal and the UK. We see the same shortcoming everywhere; A lack of education and support for the communities that cause the issues. Resulting in a terrible cycle of rescue – rehome and rescue again.

We are hoping to make a massive impact on community education and also fighting to change the laws surrounding animal care by setting an example of the highest standards, and practising what we preach, creating a rescue centre built on the core foundations that we believe in and with work carried out only by volunteers with the same morals and determination to change the current problems we face today not just in Portugal, but around the world.

We are dreaming big, very big in fact, but we know we have to start local…

We are asking you to support us in raising funds for the purchasing of land and the construction of a facility that will rescue, rehome and care for 100’s of dogs a year.

This will help us get our plan off paper and into a physical reality and allow us to really start making an impact in a space that very much needs yours and our help.
